The Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is the leading four-season mountain resort in the western United States, located in eastern California along the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the Inyo National Forest. It is currently the third most frequented ski resort in the United States. Mammoth has more than 3,500 acres of skiable terrain, with 3,100 ft of vertical rising to an elevation of 11,059 ft. It was purchased by the Intrawest Corporation in 1996, who developed three new village areas. The main Village at Mammoth is a European-style and pedestrian-only village.
