Rafael has international public and private sector expertise, and specializes in the management of commercial real estate studies, municipal planning, and project design. Prior to joining LWLP, Rafael provided public and private sector clients across Canada with economic research, policy analysis and strategic advice on economic and urban planning matters related to real estate, housing markets, municipal finance, urban growth, demographics and financial feasibility. His work on intergovernmental urban development initiatives also allows him to bring a unique lens to development projects.
In academia, Rafael worked on interdisciplinary planning studies including environmental assessments for linear infrastructure projects and climate change resiliency adaptation planning. He achieved a Bachelors in Environmental Studies with Honours, a Post-Graduate Certificate in International Project Management and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Urban Mobility.
Rafael is a member of the American Planning Association and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Since 2017 he has been supporting ULI’s UrbanPlan program, to deliver high school students with a hands-on experience in developing land use solutions to real estate challenges.
